ALP STATE CONFERENCE THIS WEEKEND IN WAKE OF

FIRE SERVICE REFORM ANNOUNCEMENT

UFU CONCERNED ABOUT LACK OF DETAIL AND THE

OUTSTANDING ELECTION PROMISES

Media have this evening foreshadowed the Andrews’ Government announcement of fire services reform, which is now expected tomorrow.

The UFU has concerns regarding the Government’s proposal, and in particular its election commitments to the UFU and its members.

We understand that the Government had been working on a number of matters but late night discussions have resulted in a significant concern regarding some matters that we expected to be announced tomorrow.

The Branch Committee of Management discussed these matters tonight and have resolved that election commitments that are publicly known and outstanding must be honoured.

Additionally, the Branch Committee of Management resolved to hold delegate telephone conferences tomorrow to inform delegates of the late-night developments.  These telephone conferences will commence in the morning and given the significant number of delegates that need to be contacted, they will be scheduled throughout the day.

Members are notified that the Victoria ALP State Conference is being held at Mooney Valley Racecourse on Saturday and Sunday of which a full report will be given by the Secretary to members and delegates.
