UFU MEMBERS REQUESTED TO SUPPORT DISABILITY WORKERS RALLY TO PROTEST THE GOVERNMENT’S PRIVATISATION PLANS

The UFU is urging all of our members to answer a call for support from all unions and unionists by the Health and Community Services Union (HACSU).

The government has announced that it is putting out public disability services to an Expression of Interest – the first step in privatising the sector.

This union represents over 5,000 workers in the public sector, who care for people with disabilities – some of the most vulnerable members of our community. These dedicated and skilled workers who should be paid more, are a workforce dominated by hard working women who have over the years fought for and won important protections in their EBA.

These workers are facing pay cuts of up to 30%, huge cuts to conditions and a loss of job security if their jobs are privatised. The private and non-government disability sector is poorly unionised, and workers have sub-standard wages and conditions., There have been over the years many concerns with the quality of the services provided to people with disabilities outside the government sector.

UFU RESPECTFULLY REQUESTS THAT MEMBERS WHO ARE ABLE TO ATTEND SHOULD, TO SUPPORT THESE WORKERS IN THEIR FIGHT TO SAVE THEIR JOBS, WAGES AND CONDITIONS, AND, TO ENSURE THAT QUALITY DISABILTY SERVICES CONTINUE TO BE PROVIDED BY THE PUBLIC SECTOR.
