16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST VIOLENCE
The UFU is proud to support 16 Days of Activism Against Violence. Starting tomorrow, the MFB will be commencing a campaign against violence. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign to eliminate violence.
Every year, the campaign starts on the 25th November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and runs until the 10th December, International Human Rights Day.
The UFU and MFB are committed to this campaign because violence is an occupational hazard for firefighters and MFB employees, and rates of violence in the general community indicate that it’s likely that many people have also experienced violence in their personal lives.
Being exposed to violence can have negative impacts on people, particularly their mental health and wellbeing. Over the next 16 days, MFB will be disseminating information that will assist in giving people the knowledge and tools to get involved in the prevention and elimination of violence, as well as information on support services.
Victoria’s professional career firefighters have a proud history of building a safer community for all Victorians. Career firefighters are role models and leaders in our community. The UFU is proud to be involved with MFB in this campaign to make a difference to our community.
Members are also advised that the UFU has written to the CFA asking the CFA to indicate their willingness to support this important campaign.
