Victorian Public Sector Commission hands down report on MFB selection process
Yesterday the Victorian Public Sector Commission handed down a report regarding the MFB selection process for promotion and specifically regarding the most recent round of ACFO selection processes.
This inquiry was initiated on the request of the Secretary of the Department of Justice and Regulation and the UFU provided submissions.
The report made two key findings which the UFU wishes to make members aware of:
1. That there was sufficient evidence to support the UFU’s view that some employees may have a reasonable apprehension that the selection panel would be biased; and
2. While the Commission found that the MFB acted consistently with public sector employment principles, there was no evidence to show that the MFB had made its recruitment and selection processes available to all employees in their published policies and procedures.
The Commission’s findings are only based on an inquiry into some of the issues raised by the UFU as it was narrowly restricted in its powers as to what it could consider in this inquiry and how it could deal with potential concerns.
The UFU is seeking to bring the report and its findings to the attention of those who may have applied for this round of ACFO selection and we are also seeking discussions with the MFB regarding the process from here.
