Bulletin No: 666 Volume: 22 Wednesday 27 January 2016
To ALL UFU MEMBERS
666 DAYS AGO THE MFB TRIED TO DRAG US THROUGH HELL
Monday marked 666 days since the MFB filed to terminate the Operational Staffing agreement and it is only fitting that we take time to remember the evil actions which were perpetrated on that day.
The UFU would like to note that we are in no way making a comparison between the MFB and the Devil because, as popular culture has shown us, when you do a deal with the Devil he honours his commitment.
As members will recall, if the MFB had been successful in their applications, every clause and condition of employment contained within these enterprise agreements would no longer apply. Furthermore, during the hearing of the case it was revealed that the MFB had plans to reduce crewing by up to 24 firefighters, taking eight trucks offline at any time.
Members are reminded that the following individuals gave evidence on behalf of the MFB:
- Peter Rau
- Paul Stacchino
- David Youssef
- John Jugum
- Darren Davies
- David Bruce
- Darren McQuade
- Greg Pearson
- Adam Dalrymple
- Andrew O’Connell
- Craig Lloyd
- Andrew Zammit
- Janette Pearce
- Michael Werle
- Margaret Wilson
(Password-protected witness statements are available to members via the UFU website. Members can access the statements by obtaining the username and password from their shop steward.)
Fortunately, the MFB failed in its expensive legal bid to wipe out firefighters’ terms and conditions of employment. Union solidarity was evident in powerful evidence from 74 witnesses from all ranks, and 60–100 firefighters attending every day of the 15 days of hearing and two days of the legal submissions.
The strength shown by UFU members throughout this sustained attack will never be forgotten.
Strength in Unity
