AMENDMENTS TO EMERGENCY SERVICES SUPERANNUATION SCHEME ENACTED
As member may be aware, amendments to the Emergency Service Worker Superannuation Scheme passed by the Victorian Government received royal assent on Tuesday this week.
The amendments were the culmination of lengthy negotiations between the Emergency Services Federation, which includes police and ambulance unions as well as the UFU, and the Victorian Government.
Prior to the negotiation, the ESF made a joint submission to a review of the scheme which identified a number of areas requiring attention. Whilst we are disappointed that not all of these have been addressed, the changes that have been implemented will provide improvements to the scheme that will benefit a large number of members.
In particular, the changes will provide a significant benefit to members who have reached their maximum benefit multiple and were no longer accruing superannuation benefits. These members will now commence accruing superannuation into an accumulation fund. Contributions will be backdated to 1 July 2019.
Members with any questions regarding the changes to superannuation arrangements should contact Jeremy Murphy at the UFU office on 0419 127 010 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
