To ALL UFU MEMBERS
ATTEMPTS TO DIVIDE
CFA AND MFB FIREFIGHTERS
Today, after having walked out of bargaining, the Andrews’ Government has now taken up in part the UFU’s suggestion from negotiations yesterday (21 October 2015) to provide an interim pay increase for all firefighters and staff under the MFB and CFA Operational Staff Agreements.
However, the Andrews’ Government have only agreed to pay CFA firefighters a 5% wage increase effective from the next pay period.
The UFU has constantly reminded the State Government that CFA and MFB firefighters have not had a wage increase for the past two fire seasons. In fact the last increase was a meagre 1.5% in October 2013.
While we welcome the Government’s decision to agree with our suggestion and pay an interim increase, it is far from satisfying the needs and requirements of firefighters who deserve wage justice and an agreement that protects their employment conditions.
This afternoon the UFU filed for assistance by the Fair Work Commission. The UFU was forced into this application as a result of the Andrews’ Government and Minister reneging of agreements that had been reached throughout the bargaining process.
The Andrews’ Government has forgotten that MFB firefighters also deserve not only an interim pay increase but wage justice and an agreement that protects their employment conditions.
The UFU will not give up the fight for fair and reasonable wage increases and protections in their agreements.
