Bulletin No: 135 Volume: 20 Thursday 19 June 2014
TO ALL UFU MEMBERS
The UFU provides the following information to members to keep you informed as to the current progress regarding enterprise bargaining with the MFB.
The UFU is in the process of re-negotiating the ACFO’s agreement and the Operational Staff Agreement.
This process has involved the use of the office of the Fair Work Commission in accordance with section 240 of the fair Work Act 2009 which states the Commissioner can assist the parties during negotiations.
The MFB at various times has alleged that some of the UFU’s bargaining claims cannot legally be included in a new agreement. The UFU does not accept the employers re AEU legal complaints regarding the UFU claims. However in the spirit of cooperation and in order to continue our negotiations the UFU made significant changes to the UFU claim in an effort to address the MFB’s complaints.
Nonetheless, the MFB cancelled a scheduled bargaining meeting and advised the employees of such. This is despite the last meeting between the parties being quite positive. The UFU will shortly provide a written response to the MFB regarding this cancellation.
The UFU will continue to bargain with the MFB and look forward to advancing negotiations. We call on the MFB to do likewise. There is no reason why the parties cannot continue our negotiations.
Members are advised that we have and will continue to schedule bargaining meetings with the MFB as we are confident that eventually an agreement will be reached as has been the case in previous negotiations.
