“BATTLE OF THE BREWERY”

MERCHANDISE AVAILABLE

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR

SACKED CUB WORKERS

For more than 50 days the ETU and AMWU have been picketing the CUB Brewery in Abbotsford protesting the sacking of 55 workers.

These 55 workers had their livelihoods ripped away without warning and overnight were left with no means to support their families or meet their commitments.

The UFU encourages all to support these workers and one way would be to buy the ETU “Battle of the Brewery” campaign merchandise.

The Red “Battle of the Brewery” hoodies can be purchased through the ETU website:

This is your opportunity to show your support in a very practical way.

On the 10th of June 55 Carlton United Brewery maintenance workers were sacked without prior notice and then invited to reapply for their jobs through a company called “Catalyst Recruitment” on the following basis:

  • no guarantees of security of employment;
  • individual contracts;
  • to be covered by a barely compliant non-union EBA;
  • a massive loss of terms and conditions of employment including an approximate 65% reduction in monetary entitlements.

CUB has sought to rid itself of committed union workers with a combined 900 years service, and hard fought terms and conditions of employment to replace them with non-union labour.

On the other side is a multi-million national beer conglomerate that made $4.4 billion in operating profit in 2015 and whose CEO, Alan Clark has estimated earnings of $62 million this year.

This is not about a company in trouble – it is a union busting campaign to drive down wages and conditions.

Members would be aware of the support that the ETU has showed us over the years with ETU members regularly attending UFU rallies to show their solidarity.
