FAILURE OF DIGITAL RADIO NETWORK

A SAFETY ISSUE

The UFU has been made aware of significant issues with the recently introduced Digital Radio Network, particularly in District 14. This includes blackspots in network coverage (including when firefighters have entered structures) that have resulted in failure of fireground communications.

As a result, CFA have suspended the use of the digital network in District 14 and reverted back to the analog network.

Failure of radio communications at the fireground is a serious safety issue and UFU advises members to lodge a CFA Safe report should this occur.

The UFU will also be raising this issue with CFA at the appropriate consultative committees. To assist the UFU, we are requesting that all Shop Stewards and HSRs please provide as much information as possible relating to the radio network failures/safety issues via email to UFU Industrial Officer Steve Horton via email at io6@ufuvic.asn.au.
