CFA BACKS DOWN AFTER ATTEMPTING TO EXCLUDE PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS FROM CHIEF OFFICER’S BRIEFING
CFA Management has attempted to exclude Professional Firefighters from Morwell and Traralgon from a briefing with the Chief Officer to discuss the recently announced new CFA District in the Latrobe Valley. This briefing and Q & A Session was only open to volunteers and Professional Firefighters were not invited.
Under a new Latrobe Valley District, Professional Firefighters will respond to 95% of the District’s emergencies, including the Hazelwood Mine where they are the primary responders. Professional Firefighters will also be heavily involved in providing support to the many volunteer brigades in the new District.
Unfortunately the UFU is not surprised that at a period of significant change where Professional Firefighters will play an instrumental role, that CFA management would even consider engaging in such divisive tactics.
CFA management reluctantly conceded and extended an invitation to the on duty pumper crew only from each station but only after the matter was raised locally and met with strong resistance.
