To ALL UFU MEMBERS

FURTHER OPEN LETTER

OF INVITATION TO MFB

REGARDING

ENTERPRISE

BARGAINING

Further open letter of invitation to a meeting of employees for Acting Chief Fire Officer Peter Rau, Deputy Chief Officer Paul Stacchino and former UFU President David Youssef.

Dear Sirs

The MFB has raised concern at the short notice with respect to our request for MFB representatives to attend the UFU meetings last week.

It is unfortunate that the MFB did not attend and directly speak with employees about the current enterprise bargaining and the MFB attempts to have the current enterprise agreement terminated. The MFB messages to employees are predominantly one way communications with no opportunity for questions in person.

The MFB has put forward views regarding firefighter conditions of employment and bargaining via numerous emails to all staff and via public quotations in the media and YouTube. Unfortunately such views are quite controversial and have caused much angst across the workforce.

Given the substantial changes that you are seeking to make to MFB operational employees conditions, it would not be of surprise that there is considerable interest regarding this matter and in particular a desire to obtain the factual and truthful situation regarding the MFB positions.

In accordance with principles of transparency and accountability it is appropriate that the MFB bargaining representatives accept an invitation to attend a meeting of employees to put your position directly to those whom it is intended to affect.

The MFB’s former CEO Mr Easy himself felt it important enough to attend an employees meeting for the Corporate and Technical Staff Negotiations, we see no reason why the current executives should not do the same for Operational staff.

Therefore the UFU again extends an invitation in the spirit of openness and transparency for each of you to attend a meeting to explain the MFB position directly with employees.

We are amenable to meeting times and dates, and propose that the MFB put forward some proposed dates and the UFU will take care of meeting arrangements.

Could you please confirm when the MFB can attend a meeting of employees.

Yours Faithfully

Peter Marshall
