IMPORTANT INFORMATION

UPDATE FOR ALL UFU MEMBERS

CONGRATULATIONS

Members are to be congratulated with the outstanding success of the election campaign that was not only a victory in the ballot box but more importantly is a victory for solidarity.

Labor swept into power and did so on the energy and commitment of the UFU, ambulance officers, nurses, teachers, workers and trade unions all of who can be hugely proud of this achievement.

The UFU launched its campaign in February with a two-day delegate conference that laid the foundations of the extensive, comprehensive and at times exhaustive 9-month campaign.  These have been testing times but the UFU has grown from strength to strength.

On behalf of the Branch Committee of Management I acknowledge all the hours spent by members with door-knocks, thousands of one-on-one conversations explaining the attack on fire services, hundreds of public information sessions at train stations, shopping centres and areas where there is a high volume of public traffic.

The UFU produced and handed out over 300,000 “how not to vote” cards.

Social media reached well over half a million people.

The campaign culminated in Election Day yesterday with firefighters at 109 polling booths in 9 key electorates involving well over 650 firefighter shifts.

The above is only a very small statistical sample of the involvement of the UFU of which each and every one of you can be very proud.

A more comprehensive analysis of the election and the UFU campaign will come in time.

For now it is time to celebrate – enjoy the strength in unity – reflect on the massive achievements of the UFU in the past 12 months.

We then begin to address the misuse of fire service levy, the destruction of the trust in the workplace, the failure to properly resource our fire services and the relentless attack on firefighters and their terms and conditions of employment.

A special general meeting will be notified shortly.

A very big well done to all involved!

NATIONAL COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT MEETING

Members are informed that there is a joint New Zealand Professional Firefighters’ Union and the United Firefighters’ Union of Australia in Auckland commencing Tuesday 2 December 2014.

As part of the joint National Committee of Management meeting there will also be a joint OH & S coordinators meeting.

In my capacity as National Secretary of the United Firefighters Union of Australia and as Chair of the International Fire Firefighters Union Alliance (Global Alliance) there will be a comprehensive update on global developments relating to fire services.

Additional to the above a full report of the outcome of the meeting will be provided to members in the future.

END OF THE YEAR FINANCIAL ACCOUNTS

In accordance with Fair Work Australia requirements the UFU Victorian Branch accounts have been audited and are available for members’ perusal via the UFU Victorian Branch Website secure section for members.

In closing I would like to thank each and every member for the tenacity, professionalism and solidarity in what has been very testing and trying times.

Strength in Unity
