Bulletin No: 151 Volume: 22 Saturday 27 August 2016
To: ALL UFU OP’S MEMBERS
IMPORTANT: MEMBERS ASKED TO VOICE THEIR CONCERNS TO SENATORS ABOUT PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE FAIR WORK ACT AS A MATTER OF URGENCY
Members would be aware that the Coalition government is attempting to change the Fair Work Act in order to block the CFA Enterprise Agreement. This will have wide ranging effects, essentially the legislation as proposed will result in ongoing protracted litigation which is designed to make the agreement unworkable.
Additionally it is a direct attack on Professional/Career firefighters working conditions. It will also eventually have an effect on other industries.
Your action is required as a matter of urgency given the time frames proposed for the legislation.
The Liberal Party has been running a campaign spreading fear and misinformation regarding the EBA in the community to justify the need for this legislation. The campaign has been based on lies and misinformation and comes on the back of the federal election campaign by the Liberal party which also extracted money from the community based on the website they set up in relation to the CFA enterprise agreement.
Thanks to Minister Cash’s embarrassing performance on sky news earlier this week the community is beginning to see this legislation for what it really is, a superficial action undertaken by a government without any substance.
The Turnbull government has announced that the introduction of this legislation will be their first order of business when parliament returns on Tuesday so it is imperative that members make every effort to ensure their voices are heard as soon as possible.
To help operational members express their concerns directly to Senators regarding the Coalitions changes to the Fair Work Act the UFU has set up an online portal.
It is important that members participate in this campaign as it is your opportunity to ensure that the politicians who will be voting on whether or not this legislation is passed know how you feel.
To send your personal communication to the federal politicians concerned who will be deciding this matter. Members should access the portal at: https://www.ufuvic.asn.au/cfa-eba/stop-the-coalitions-fair-work-act-amendments/
For any questions regarding accessing the portal please call Dan on 0419 127 045.
