WARNING REGARDING NAPTHINE GOVERNMENT MPS AND CANDIDATES APPROACHING FIREFIGHTERS AT STATIONS

Members are advised to remain alert to Napthine Government MPs and Candidates approaching firefighters at stations seeking distribution of their election material.

This week an MFB Station Officer was asked for by name at an MFB station by Napthine Government MP Neil Angus. Mr Angus had the location, rank and name of the Station Officer who had only moved to the station a number of weeks ago. Mr Angus handed over a letter addressed to the Station Officer.

Mr Angus then requested the MFB Station Officer to distribute Napthine Government material regarding presumptive legislation to all employees.

For members who are not aware, after 4 years of inaction, blocking and voting down presumptive legislation, the Liberal party have now included presumptive legislation as an election campaign promise but their position is subject to them being re-elected and is lacking detail.

After years of inaction, the Liberal parties’ latest promise is obviously a stunt aimed at simply getting re-elected. Previously the ALP and the Greens have been pursuing this legislation for well over 2 years.

The UFU is seeking an investigation via the MFB CEO Jim Higgins as to how this MFB fireifghters details were made available to the Liberal Party.

In the interim, if members are approached by Napthine Government candidates, the UFU strongly advises members to contact your shop steward and the UFU office.
