To ALL UFU MEMBERS

MASS ATTENDANCE AT SPECIAL GENERAL MEMBERS MEETINGS:

ALL MOTIONS PASSED UNANIMOUSLY

The UFU would like to thank all members who attended the special general members meetings on Wednesday 20 November. It was uplifting to see over 700 Operational members from both the MFB and CFA at the Victorian Trades Hall.

This enterprising bargaining campaign will be a tough fight with the employers seeking to remove and downgrade many of the conditions of employment UFU members have fought for over many decades.

For members who were not able to attend the members meetings, please find below a copy of the motions voted on. All motions passed unanimously in a show of strong solidarity across the membership:

  1.  That this special meeting of United Firefighters Union (Victorian Branch) members totally rejects the MFB Log of Claims.
  2. That this special meeting of United Firefighters Union (Victorian Branch) members totally rejects the CFA Log of Claims.

  1. That this special meeting of United Firefighters Union (Victorian Branch) members, having been advised of the UFU process regarding the final phase of the development of both the MFB and the CFA Log of Claims endorses the process of the membership being provided with the final draft Log of Claims electronically and further that the membership provide any feedback on the draft Log of Claims by close of business Wednesday 27 November 2013.

  1. That this special meeting of United Firefighters Union (Victorian Branch) members, having heard the report by the Branch Secretary, endorses the processes undertaken by the Branch Committee of Management to date.

  1. That this special meeting of United Firefighters Union (Victorian Branch) members, endorses the membership and community campaign ‘Protect the Protectors’.

  1. That this special meeting of United Firefighters Union (Victorian Branch) members, having been briefed in detail on the MFB and CFA Log of Claims, totally condemns the Minister for Emergency Services, Mr Kim Wells, and further, on the basis that Mr Wells is compromising the safety of firefighters and the community, this meeting conveys the strongest vote of no confidence in Mr Wells as the Minister for Emergency Services.

Members are advised that the membership log of claims is now available online and members can gain access by contacting either the UFU office or shop stewards.

The UFU membership is facing one of the toughest bargaining campaigns in its history. The solidarity shown at these membership meetings demonstrates the commitment that is necessary in these testing times. In unity, propelled by adversity, and in the pursuit of justice, we will prevail as a collective.

Strength in Unity
