TO ALL UFU MEMBERS
HERALD AND AGE ARTICLES:
AND MFB NOT HONOURING AGREEMENTS
Members would be aware that the Premier Daniel Andrews gave a commitment to firefighters to honour the UFU’s current enterprise agreements and the clauses contained within.
Members would also be aware that under the previous government the UFU had to spend literally millions of dollars of members’ money to enforce the enterprise agreements as the MFB and CFA were refusing to honour the commitments they made and were attacking the validity of the agreements.
The UFU has never reneged on an agreement that it has made with another party and views in the strongest terms when a party does not honour an agreement with the UFU.
Today’s articles focus on one matter however there have been a number of agreements that have been breached in relation to your enterprise agreement. We have taken these matters up directly with the Premier and the Minister in the context of their undertakings and agreements they made with firefighters prior to and after the State Election.
The union does not condone inappropriate behaviour in the workplace, but as members would be aware we have extreme concerns regarding the process that the MFB utilises, and indeed its selective application of processes against individuals.
For example we have written a complaint to both the Premier and the MFB CEO about the alleged attempted coercion by director of an employee which we consider a very serious matter. There has been absolutely nothing done in relation to that matter.
In other words it appears the MFB and the Government simply pick and choose who they will apply their discipline process to and when it suits them to do it.
There is much more detail surrounding these issues.
A Special General Meeting will be held in the near future so that members can be fully briefed on the Andrews Government reneging on commitments they made.
