Bulletin No: 134 | 10 November 2019
TO: ALL UFU MFB MEMBERS
MFB TASK FORCE TO BE DEPLOYED TO NEW SOUTH WALES TOMORROW
Members would by now have seen the footage and reports of the bushfires currently raging across NSW and Queensland. With the weather forecast predicted to worsen conditions in NSW in the coming days, an MFB task force will be deployed to NSW tomorrow to assist FRNSW.
Though interstate deployments have occurred in the past, this particular arrangement is a striking example of prompt yet careful planning, with the safety of both the community and operational personnel front and centre of any decisions made.
Tomorrow, an MFB task force (day shift) will be deployed to NSW to provide support in the following forms:
- 5 MFB Pumper Tankers and crews to backfill FRNSW stations;
- BA Support;
Health and safety of members has been at the forefront of all decision making in making these arrangements:
- MFB crews will be “split” so as that each crew in NSW will consist of 2 FRNSW career firefighters and 2 MFB career firefighters, in consideration of FRNSW powers under their Act and FRNSW crews’ local knowledge; and
- MFB radios will be configured so as that crews can operate safely and effectively at jobs together.
We wish all UFU members who will travel to NSW tomorrow a safe deployment.
