MFB TERMINATION

CASE UPDATE

As Members are aware the UFU filed a wealth of evidence in response to the MFB allegations and applications to terminate the MFB UFU Operational Staff Agreement 2010 and the MFB UFU Assistant Chief Fire Officer Agreement 2010

While 55 witness statements were filed, some were composite statements where 18 other firefighter’s information and views were put through other witness statements.  Therefore the UFU evidence submitted was by a total 73 operational staff members.

The MFB were required to file any witness statements and evidence in response by 12 noon today but earlier this week requested an extension of time due to the “volume of evidence” the UFU had filed and had to be responded to.

The Fair Work Commission granted the MFB an extension until Monday 5pm (and not Wednesday as requested by the MFB).

The UFU will make the response statements available when they have been received so that Members fully understand the claims made by the MFB in support of the applications to terminate the agreements.

UFU Members are reminded to take the opportunity to hear the MFB evidence’s by attending the Fair Work Commission hearing.

As previously notified, the case has been set down for 20 days to be heard at the Fair Work Commission.   Below is the list of hearing dates and the platoon on Day Shift.  Therefore anyone not on day shift should be able to attend as often as possible.

It is important that Members attend to hear firsthand the evidence of the MFB in its application to abolish the MFB UFU Operational Staff Agreement 2010 and the MFB UFU ACFO Agreement 2010.

This is the most significant of attacks MFB firefighters are facing.

A large number of MFB firefighters are providing witness statements opposing the application and clearly putting their views including the significant detrimental impact if their terms and conditions of employment were to be wiped out.

The hearing will be held at the Fair Work Commission, 11 Exhibition Street, every week day from Monday 7 July 2014 to Friday 1 August 2014.

Below is a list of each hearing day and the shift on day duty.

Anyone not on duty on the hearing days are strongly encouraged to attend the Fair Work Commission whenever they can.

The UFU is collating a roster.  Please ring Rini 0400 441 616 or email io3@ufuvic.asn.au to be included in the roster.
