DON’T BE DECEIVED BY
We have been informed by members that the Chief Executive Officer and Senior MFB Executive Members have been conveying to Operational employees that there conditions will be guaranteed by an undertaking that the MFB will provide.
This is extremely misleading.
- The undertaking provided is questionable as to whether it can be enforced.
- The terms of the undertaking involve a significant reduction in conditions that you currently enjoy under your enterprise agreement.
- MFB’S UNDERTAKING EXPIRES IN 12 MONTHS AND WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR TERMS AND CONDITIONS THEN IS UNKNOWN, IS A MATTER FOR THE MFB SUBJECT TO THE AWARD, IF ANY AWARD APPLIES.
There is a distinct lack of honesty and transparency by the MFB when they convey to employees that all is well and that MFB will ensure members’ the conditions of employment will not be affected.
This is simply not true.
We will be writing to Mr Higgins asking him to convey the truthful situation i.e. that the Undertaking if applied would result in a reduction in conditions and that it expires in 12 months.
Additionally the MFB repeatedly refers to the Victorian Firefighting Industry Employees Interim Award 2000 which they are actively attempting to have terminated in the current modernisation of awards process.
Members might rightfully ask that if the MFB do not propose any changes in terms and conditions – why terminate the Agreement?
