NOTIFICATION TO MEMBERS OF UNION RULE CHANGE
Timing of election re new positions on Branch Committee of Management
As members are aware, earlier this year the Victoria Branch amended schedule 2 of the union rules to increase representation on BCOM for CFA members from two to four (i.e. one each of officer and firefighter members of committee). This amendment was resolved by the Branch Committee, put to members and sanctioned by the Fair Work Commission (Bulletin #017, published 12 February 2019).
This is a notification to members that, in accordance with the Union Rules, on 14 October 2019 the UFU Victoria Branch Committee of Management adopted a branch rule change to ensure that elections for all branch positions – including the 2 new positions – take place at the same time, being every 3 years.
The terms of the change are as follows:
a) That Schedule 2 Branch Rules of the United Firefighters’ Union of Australia Victorian Branch sub-rule 1(1)(a) be altered by deleting “55” and inserting “56”
b) That Schedule 2 Branch Rules of the United Firefighters’ Union of Australia Victorian branch sub-rule 1(1) paragraph (a)(iii) by adding the following;
“Providing that notwithstanding anything elsewhere in the rules, the Committee members holding the offices referred to in this paragraph shall hold office from the time of their election under until the declaration of elections for Branch officers conducted in 2021, and the persons then elected shall be elected for three years thereafter.”
