TO ALL UFU MEMBERS

PROTECTED INDUSTRIAL ACTION BALLOT ORDERS TO BE ISSUED BY THE FAIR WORK COMMISSION

FURTHER UPDATE TO BE PROVIDED AT TOMORROWS SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

This afternoon protected industrial action application hearings occurred regarding both CFA and MFB Operational Staff bargaining. At the hearings the employers made technical legal submissions against the UFU applications.

However this evening the parties have been notified via the Commission that after consideration of the submissions and evidence received in the matter, the Commissioner will be issuing Orders sought by the UFU.

This means that the first step in the ballot process has been successfully approved by the Fair Work Commission and the Australian Electoral Commission will shortly commence arrangements for the ballot to commence.

Further technical details as to the balloting process will be provided at tomorrow’s special general meeting and in further communications from the UFU. As with all protected industrial action ballots, voting will be essential if members want to have their voice count. To be approved via the balloting process, the ballot must be returned by at least 50% +1of those employees eligible to vote, and must be voted in favour by a majority.

At tomorrow’s meeting members will receive a full report in relation to the outcome as well as an update on the progress of bargaining. Tomorrow’s meeting details are as follows:
