REMINDER FURTHER UFU
SPECIAL GENERAL
MEMBERS MEETING

During last week’s two Special General Meetings, members requested that a further meeting be called to discuss the unprecedented attack by the MFB and CFA in using Fire Service Levy money to litigate against firefighters and their conditions.

It was noted at the meeting that combined the MFB and CFA have spent $6 million in legal fees during the last reported financial year, predominantly for the purpose of attacking employees. A copy of the MFB and CFA legal expenditure will shortly be made available via UFU shop stewards.

It is clear that the MFB and CFA are on a frolic of litigation, without any restrictions when it comes to using members of the public’s money to achieve their industrial agenda.

In response to the request from members who raised the issue, a special general meeting is called to consider the question of whether a litigation levy should be implemented to combat the ongoing attack by the MFB and CFA.

The UFU has previously advised members of the convening of a specially dedicated UFU litigation subcommittee. The BCOM has sought a recommendation from the subcommittee on these issues, for consideration by members.

Additional to the above, members were informed at yesterday’s meetings of a new stage in the UFU campaign to make the community aware of the reality of the MFB board, CFA board and Governments expenditure of the fire service levy, which is contrary

to the picture presented in the Governments latest round of advertising on the matter.

The question also needs to be asked as to whether the State Government are using fire service levy money to fund their advertising campaign.

A further update will be given on the UFU campaign at the further meeting.

The special general meeting details are as follows:

9.30am & 7.30pm

Tuesday 12 August 2014

Trades Hall

(corner of Victoria and Lygon Streets, Melbourne)

Members are also advised that UFU merchandise will be available for purchase at the meeting.
