Bulletin No: 202 Volume: 21 Monday 26 October 2015
To ALL UFU MEMBERS
REMINDER: TELL THE MINISTER AND PREMIER YOU HAVE HAD ENOUGH!
If you have just come back to work after your 4 days off members are requested to appraise themselves of the following and to take the action as outlined below:
Members would be aware of the 5% increase that the Minister has announced for CFA firefighters commencing as of November 2015.
As previously advised this is as a direct result of the UFU having suggested a interim pay increase, although is not the quantum suggested by the UFU. It is a sad and appalling fact that Victorian operational staff have only had a 1.5 per cent increase since 2012.
What is not acceptable is that the 5% increase is certainly well short of the outcome required for Victorian professional firefighters and operational staff. The UFU will continue its relentless campaign for wage justice.
It is unthinkable that a Minister would not recognise MFB professional firefighters and operational staff and not provide them with any wage increase.
Minister Garrett and Premier Andrews have failed firefighters. Firefighters deserve a comprehensive agreement that protects their employment conditions and places a priority on workplace and public safety.
The Government abandoning firefighters and walking out of negotiations is an insult to our profession and commitment to public safety.
We need you to let the Premier and the Minister to know that you will not accept less than a complete and fair outcome.
It is time for the CFA and MFB operational staff to email the Premier and the Minister to tell them the Government’s behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
If you have not already sent an email cut and paste the below email and send to these addresses:
Dear Premier Andrews and Minister Garrett
As a professional firefighter I am offended with your inadequate pay offer and your orchestrated collapse of bargaining
Minister Garrett and Premier Andrews you have failed firefighters and operational staff in the CFA and MFB.
We deserve a comprehensive agreement that protects our employment conditions and places and recognises our priority on public and firefighter safety.
My Union has negotiated in good faith for the last 10 months at much of that at the Government’s request including the Government wanting to bargain at different levels at different times.
I call upon you to honour your negotiated agreements, resume bargaining in good faith and as Premier Andrews told us at the pre-election UFU meeting in the Collingwood Town Hall:
“I value the work that you do. I respect the sacrifices you make. I honour the risks you take every hour of every shift to keep every Victorian safe.”
