SEA OF HELMETS ON PARLIAMENT STEPS
GRAPHIC IMAGE OF THE FIREFIGHTERS
THAT HAVE NEVER BEEN RECRUITED
A sea of 342 red fire helmets covered the steps of Parliament today to symbolise the number of firefighters that the Napthine Government has failed to recruit.
In 2010 the Government and CFA promised to recruit an additional 342 firefighters by 2016.
We are about to head into the sixth bushfire season since the deadly 2009 Victorian bushfires and subsequent Royal Commission and we still see little action from this government on deliver of the addition firefighters that was promised.
While the Napthine Government Members consider their holidays in the sun and Christmas with their families, firefighters were considering facing an expected heightened bushfire season without sufficient firefighters to protect the community.
About 300 firefighters attended the Rally on the steps of Parliament and to hear the speakers Secretary Peter Marshall, Opposition Leader Daniel Andrews and VTHC Secretary Brian Boyd condemn the inaction of this government which is putting the Victorian community and firefighters at unnecessary risk.
The UFU will continue to highlight the gross failures of the Napthine Government and fight to have Victoria appropriately resourced and protected.
