TO: ALL UFU MEMBERS

UFU SPECIAL GENERAL

MEMBERS MEETING –

REPORT

The UFU held a Special Members Meeting today which was well attended by a large number of united UFU members from the MFB and CFA.

A report back was provided on UFU activities including campaigning, bargaining and current litigation including particularly regarding the MFB termination case.

At the meeting the crucial support from the UFU witnesses in the termination case was recognised by the UFU who presented certificates of appreciation to all.

The UFU commends and thanks those who participated as UFU witnesses in the MFB termination case and indeed all members who attended the hearings to show support.

At this morning’s meeting, a Napthine Slashes, You Burn campaign update was also provided, outlining the extensive actions to date, and the campaign plan going forward.

The Secretary also informed the meeting of discussions with members of parliament regarding the morale of firefighters and the disconnect due to the attack on their conditions by the MFB Board under the stewardship of MFB President Neil Comrie and the MFB ELT under the stewardship of Chief Officer Peter Rau. The Secretary explained that there will be a process to allow members to express whether they have confidence or no confidence in regard to these office holders.

Via impassioned responses from the floor, strong support for the campaign going forward and the loud rounds of applause for UFU witnesses, the sentiment came through loud and clear that UFU members are united and standing strong in the face of the relentless attacks by the CFA, MFB and government.

A particular query from the floor was in relation to gaining access to the UFU re-casted logs of claims. The claims are kept in a secured UFU web site, which can be accessed via your shop steward or the UFU office. Members should contact either to obtain a copy.

There is a further members meeting tonight at:

7.30pm

(Thursday 31 July 2014)

Trades Hall

(corner of Victoria and Lygon Streets, Melbourne)

Members are also advised that UFU merchandise will be available for purchase at the meeting.
