UFU FAMILY PICNIC DAY – THANK YOU FOR A GREAT DAY!

The UFU Annual Picnic Day is one of the main days on the UFU social calendar and a great opportunity for members of our Union and their families and friends to come together and forge and strengthen strong bonds that our Union prides itself on.

Yesterday, just under 1000 members and their families and friends attended the UFU Family Picnic Day at Moonee Valley Racecourse.  The UFU thanks all members and their families/friends who attended.

A notable highlight was presenting Colleen Hartland with Honorary Membership of the UFU thanks to her decades of service to professional firefighters/UFU members.

As many members know, Colleen’s journey started as a result of the Coode Island Fire (one of Melbourne’s largest fires) as she was a local resident at the time of the fire.  Colleen became an activist within the community and then succeeded in becoming a member of the Upper House of the Victorian Parliament – always remaining a great community member and a strong advocate for firefighters.

The presentation to Colleen was delivered by UFU President Dave Hamilton, who highlighted Colleen’s passion for advocacy and her deservedness for such an award.

Other highlights include the (many) Children’s rides as well as the Children’s Race.  Congratulations to the young winners of the Race!

The UFU also congratulates the winner of the Firefighters Gift, UFU Member and MFB Firefighter Duane Dickson.

The UFU thanks the MFB for the appliances that were present on the day.  A special mention also goes to the MFB Crews/UFU members who attended on the day!

All reports back from attendees indicate that the UFU also managed to strike the right chord with the BBQ Lunch!  The UFU thanks The Atlantic Group for the catering and the many members (both current and retired) that assisted with the cooking.

The UFU also thanks band Adam12 for the great music and entertainment.

Finally, the UFU would like to extend its appreciation to the UFU Social Committee and UFU Office Staff for their work in organising this day.

The UFU looks forward to seeing members at next year’s Picnic Day!
