Victoria’s professional firefighters continue to be held in high regard
(A good news story)
When you are on your way to or from from a call, on the way to deliver fire education at the local primary school, or wherever else your shift takes you, you must always remember that people in the community hold you and your profession in high regard.
Today, on the way back to station from a fire call, one particular member and their crew stopped to chat to members of the community, hand out stickers to the kids, and also let the kids have a go at spraying the hose. As the crew was chatting to the parents/members of the public, they could not help but notice the following statements which were repeated across the group:
“… it’s horrible what has been said about you in the paper”
“… I don’t know how you put up with it [vilification by the media]”
“… politicians should take a leaf out of your book”
As the crew was saying goodbye to the kids, they got another call and, just like that, were on their way to respond to another community member in need.
As unrelenting as the attacks on professional firefighters by media and other sources may feel – and are – the UFU respectfully reminds members that your profession is one that is respected by members of the community and is one that you should be proud of.
