UFUA Victorian Branch Rule Change
Composition of the Branch Committee of Management (BCOM)
The United Firefighters Union of Australia (UFUA) Victorian Branch, Branch Committee of Management has adopted changes to the UFU Victorian Branch rules on 14 October 2020.
In accordance with rule 49(4) of the UFUA Rules, the Branch Secretary is required to publicise the rule changes adopted by the Branch Committee of Management (BCOM).
The effect of the change is that from the next Branch Elections in 2021, the BCOM will be composed of the President, the Secretary, the following members (all employed by Fire Rescue Victoria) – 4 firefighter, 3 station officer, 1 commander and ACFO and 1 member from ‘other’ (ie NOT employed by FRV as an operational employee)
The full text of the changes is provided below:
That the Branch Rules of the Victorian Branch be altered as follows:
By deleting sub-rule i(1) and inserting the following:
(a) At the election for Branch officers to be conducted in 2021 and thereafter the Branch Committee of Management established by rule 56(1) in the Victorian Branch consists of:
(i) The President, the Vice President, the Junior Vice President, the Secretary and 4 trustees
(ii) Four (4) Firefighter Committee members all being employees of Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV)
(iii) Three (3) Station Officer and Senior Station Officer Committee members all being employees of Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV)
(iv) One (1) Commander and Assistant Chief Fire Officer Committee member being an employee of Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV)
(v) One (1) other Committee member being a member of the union who is not employed by FRV as an operational employee.
(b) Nominations for those positions specified in (a) (ii), (iii) and (iv) hereof, shall only be accepted from persons employed by FRV who are respectively Firefighters, Station Officers and Senior Station Officers, Commanders and Assistant Fire Chief Officers and only members from each of these categories may exercise a vote to elect the Committee members from those categories. For avoidance of doubt, only Firefighters may vote in elections for Firefighter Committee positions, only Station Officers and Senior Station Officers may vote in elections for Station Officers and Senior Station Officer Committee positions, and only Commanders and Assistant Chief Fire Officers may vote in the election for the Commander and Assistant Chief Fire Officer Committee position.
(c) Nominations for the position specified in (a) (v) hereof, shall only be accepted from persons who are not operational employees employed by FRV. Only members from this category may exercise a vote to elect the Committee member from this category.
