PFOS AND PFOA: RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT THE HARMFUL EFFECTS ON FIREFIGHTERS AND THE COMMUNITY

Thank you Acting SSO Martin for representing Australian firefighters on “The Project”

  • The UFU is proud to report that last night Acting Senior Station Officer and Instructor Tony Martin, affectionately known to UFU members as “Plugger”, appeared on Channel 10’s “The Project” to create awareness about PFOS and PFOA used in firefighting foams and the effects these chemicals have on firefighters and the community.
  • Members are respectfully encouraged to watch the 4-minute segment, which has been uploaded to the UFU’s Vimeo page: https://vimeo.com/282613340
  • During the short but powerful segment, Acting SSO Martin refers to our ‘firefighting family’ – the close-knit group of Australian firefighters that choose this career to ‘do the right thing’ – and the frustration felt by our Union and members when the harms of exposure to PFOS and PFOA were known yet nothing was done by the employers to protect firefighters.
  • The UFU thanks Acting SSO Martin for representing all firefighters yesterday evening and for continuing to create awareness about PFOS and PFOA contamination.
