WORKCOVER CLAIMS

Pre Injury Average Weekly Earnings (PIAWE)

The UFU is pleased to inform members that the review of all WorkCover claims lodged since April 2010, instigated by the UFU, consistent with the introduction of changes to the calculation of pre injury average weekly earnings (PIAWE) is now complete.

The process of reviewing these claims has been lengthy due to the complexity and extensive nature of the review.  The UFU worked with the MFB to ensure that the review was conducted in a manner that ensured no employee would suffer any disadvantage as a result of the review.

2516 claims have been reviewed resulting in 1080 claims being identified with some level of underpayment.

We are advised that the MFB are in the process of writing to affected employees indicating whether an underpayment has been identified and if so the amount of the underpayment along with any associated interest.

We are also advised that the MFB will be providing affected employees with access to a helpline should they have any questions or concerns.

We thank members for their patience in resolving this matter and confirm that in addition to this review the UFU has successfully negotiated changes to the Enterprise Agreement which clarify and enhance payments associated with workplace injuries.
