CONSTRUCTION WORKERS’ APPRECIATION FOR PROFESSIONAL CAREER FIREFIGHTERS
“I don’t think they get enough credit for what they do”
- The work that professional career firefighters do, and the ability to respond calmly and professionally in adverse situations, was highlighted recently in the CFMEU’s weekly podcast. The podcast discussed the recent Box Hill construction site incident, to which professional career firefighters/UFU members responded.
- The construction workers and unionists praised the MFB professional career firefighters that responded, stating that the “emergency response team did a fantastic job under dreadful circumstances … the Union is going to write a letter to them and thank them … I don’t think they get enough credit for what they do”.
- Referring to the incident, and the issues the Union faces with employers, the podcast hosts noted “If the unions weren’t here, imagine what [would be] going on” – a sentiment that rings true across many industries.
- The incident and the professionalism shown by our first responders were discussed at the beginning of the segment. Link to listen: https://www.3cr.org.au/concretegang/episode-201809090930/concrete-gang
