MENINGOCOCCAL ACWY VACCINE FREE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN VICTORIA AGED 15-19 YEARS OLD UNTIL 31 DECEMBER 2017
In the interests of community health, the UFU respectfully advises members who have children aged 15-19 years or know people in this age group that the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine is currently free for people in Victoria aged 15-19 years. This is a Victorian government initiative in response to the increase in the W strain of the Meningococcal disease in recent years.
The Meningococcal ACWY vaccine is free to young people in Victoria aged 15-19 years until 31 December 2017. You do not need to be a Medicare card holder to be eligible. The free vaccine is available at local council community immunisation sessions or from your local GP.
For more information, members are respectfully encouraged to visit www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/menvax to read about the disease, why it is important to vaccinate against the disease, the effective of the vaccine, and why the Victorian government has introduced the program for young people.
