Herald Sun Continues Malicious Campaign Against Professional Fighters
The Herald Sun articles ‘Secret union payout revealed’ & ‘Fire dispute now a firestorm’ 24/11/16 make allegations regarding the UFU which are completely false.
Members would be aware that the Herald Sun has been running a consistent smear campaign against the Union in an attempt to demonise firefighters.
The Herald Sun has published 34 front page stories about the UFU since its ongoing campaign escalated in June during the lead up to the Federal election.
These latest pieces of journalism are particular misleading and insidious in their wilful misrepresentation of the facts.
The assertion that any payment was made by the Andrews Government to the UFU in exchange for political support during the 2014 State Election is a blatant mistruth.
The seeking and awarding of legal costs is a standard practice in matters of litigation a fact which the Herald Sun and its writers would be well aware of.
Despite this fact being clearly communicated to the Herald Sun, once again its journalists have chosen to ignore the facts and to instead pursue their slanderous campaign against firefighters.
The UFU will be seeking legal advice on how to respond to this latest round of unfounded allegations.
