Bulletin No: 143 Volume: 22 Wednesday 10 August 2016
To: ALL UFU MEMBERS
UFU MEMBERS ASKED TO PARTICIPATE IN SURVEY REGARDING PFC BLOOD TESTING – OUR CONCERN IS YOUR ONGOING HEALTH AND COMPLETING THIS SURVEY IS VITAL
The UFU is concerned with inconsistencies in the process undertaken by both the MFB and CFA in PFC Blood testing as well as the information that is being disseminated along with results.
Following the report published by the Parliamentary inquiry into Fiskville both the CFA and MFB have been providing PFC blood testing for employees.
Members have informed the UFU of inconsistencies in the way that testing has occurred and in the way that results have been communicated.
To map the extent of the concerns of members in relation to inconsistent blood testing practices the UFU has developed an electronic survey.
Those members who have had PFC blood testing are requested to fill out the following Survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/M5T3R9S
Alternatively if you wish to speak to someone about this please contact Dan at the UFU office on 0419 127 045.
The UFU is also concerned at the information being given to members to help them understand their results.
An MFB fact Sheet from April states that “serum PFOS concentrations up to 2 mg/L (2000 ng/mL) have not been shown to be associated with adverse biological effects.” This contradicts findings from the Fiskville inquiry:
Finding 104 of the Fiskville Parliamentary Inquiry states: “That the German Environment Agency is a world leader in researching the impact of PFC contamination on human health.”
Finding 101 states that: “The German Environment Agency has defined threshold levels of PFOS and PFOA in human blood. “ Those threshold levels were defined as 5ng/ml for PFOS and 2ng/ml for PFOA.
The UFU’s concern is your ongoing health and completing this survey is vital.
