From there members will march to the steps of Parliament where we will be launching our campaign. A number of guest speakers will be invited to attend including the Minister for Emergency Services and the Premier.
It’s been over 900 days since firefighters have had a new enterprise agreement. Under the Andrews Government the UFU has participated in 10 months of negotiations in good faith consisting of; 29 meetings with the government appointed facilitator, 6 meetings directly with the government at the highest level and previous to that 62 meetings with the CFA and MFB.
As members have been informed at the very last moment when there was only a handful of clauses to be resolved the Government reneged on the agreed clauses, referred the matter to the Fair Work Commission to avoid their obligations and called a press conference simultaneously.
Additionally it is now a matter of public record that either the minister or premiers office leaked confidential documentation to the Herald Sun with the premier and minister misrepresenting the Unions position on wages in an attempt to demonise firefighters in the public arena.
The Andrews Government has betrayed the trust of Firefighters and tried to diminish your standing in the community. Your presence at the Rally is needed so please make the effort to attend.
The actions of the Andrews Government are extremely disappointing given the time and effort given by off duty firefighters in assisting in the last state election campaign.
To date the Andrews Government have mistreated you in the following ways:
- Reneging on clauses which were agreed to.
- Leaking confidential documents to the Herald Sun.
- Misrepresenting the UFU’s bargaining position in the media.
- Dragging out the enterprise Bargaining Process and delaying a new agreement.
- Pretending to grant you a five percent increase when in reality such increase is not enforceable and can be taken away from you at any time by the employer.
Members will be provided with further detail over the coming weeks.
In the meantime if you have any queries please contact the UFU office or your Shop Steward.
