UFU WELCOMES NEW CFA BOARD MEMBERS

The Minister for Emergency Services, James Merlino, has today announced a new CFA board.

The new board will be chaired by Mr Greg Smith AM, with Ms Michelle McLean to serve as deputy chair. The other board members are Ms Pam White, Dr Gillian Sparkes, and Mr Simon Weir.

The UFU would like to take this opportunity to congratulate these new board members who we look forward to working with to ensure the best outcome for members and Victorians into the future.

In accordance with the Country Fire Authority Act, the Minister has asked Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria to nominate a further four members to join the board.

Following the Ministers announcement CFA CEO, Lucinda Nolan, tendered her resignation.  It is not yet apparent who will be appointed as CFA CEO.

Members would be aware that the outgoing board members oversaw one of the worst and most divisive periods in CFA history.  A period of time which included amongst other things:

  • The Fiskville cover up
  • The Recruits Case
  • Protracted and delayed EBA negotiations
  • Delaying the implantation of structural PPC

The appointment of a new board and CEO is an opportunity for a fresh start for the CFA as an organisation and it is our greatest hope that the Board and management can learn from the mistakes of the past.

Members are respectfully requested to continue to remain dignified and professional and refrain from any negative comment.
