UFU welcomes Premier Andrews’ announcement of new Minister for Police and Emergency Services the Hon. Lisa Neville & Parliamentary Secretary for Police and Emergency Services Paul Edbrooke MP
Members are advised that Premier Daniel Andrews has just announced the new Minister for Police and Emergency Services and Parliamentary Secretary for Police and Emergency Services for this next term of the Andrews Labor Government.
The Hon. Lisa Neville has today been announced as Minister for Police and Emergency Services and Paul Edbrooke MP has been named Parliamentary Secretary for Police and Emergency Services.
Ms Neville is the member for Bellarine in the Lower House and formerly held the position of Minister for Police. Her achievements in the last term include increasing police staffing numbers by over 2700 new police to better service the public. Professional career firefighters have maintained a strong working relationship with Ms Neville for a number of years.
Mr Edbrooke is the member for Frankston in the Upper House and was first elected to State Parliament in 2014. Prior to his election, Mr Edbrooke was a professional career firefighter in the CFA for 14 years, and was stationed at the local Frankston Fire Station from 2001. During his time as a professional career firefighter, Mr Edbrooke attended a number of major incidents including the Black Saturday bushfires and the Morwell Coal Mine fire. Mr Edbrooke has been a long-time advocate for firefighter and community safety.
The UFU sees today’s announcement as an extremely positive one which will provide a strong foundation to progress firefighter and community safety, as well as a way to move forward out of the never-ending industrial disputation that we have experienced.
In light of this announcement, the UFU also thanks the previous Minister for Emergency Services, Deputy Premier James Merlino, for his extensive work in the fire services particularly in testing circumstances.
The UFU welcomes progressive politics and necessary reforms, including vital fire service reform, for the betterment of all Victorians. The UFU looks forward to working with the new Minister for Police and Emergency Services and with the Victorian Government to achieve a modern, safe and reliable fire service for our state.
Your Branch Committee of Management once again expresses sincere appreciation to all UFU members and delegates for your professionalism, discipline and, importantly, the support you provided to one another before and during the election period.
UFU Delegate conference calls and further information will follow.
