- The UFU Victoria is proud to announce a one-day conference for members on presumptive legislation for PTSI and occupational cancer in the fire services.
- The UFUA first embarked on the journey for presumptive rights in 2011, with the Senate Inquiry into Occupational Cancers of Firefighters being the initial catalyst for change. This could not have been achieved without the knowledge, information-sharing and involvement of Alex and Ken in the Inquiry and beyond. This work resulted in Australia being the first country outside of North America to achieve presumptive rights for firefighters.
- The UFU Victoria is acutely aware that, despite the launch of this campaign 8 years ago by the national union, Victorian firefighters are still without legislative protections. The UFU supports well-drafted and protective presumptive legislation for all firefighters and we have actively fought for this for close to a decade and we look forward to its introduction.
- This conference is a great opportunity for UFU members to understand our Canadian colleagues’ experience in achieving presumptive legislation – for occupational cancer and PTSI in the fire services. Members are encouraged to bring along questions from their stations & workplaces for Alex and Ken on the day.
