UPDATE ON EASTERN HILL REOCCUPATION
Following bulletin 255, yesterday, UFU representatives including a HSR and a BCOM representative, undertook a final inspection of the proposed reoccupation sites at Eastern Hill being the old building and the infill building.
The inspections carried out by the UFU indicated some issues which the MFB have rectified or have committed to rectifying.
It is our understanding that the buildings have been cleaned completely and are completely sealed off from the new building. Smoke testing has been undertaken by the MFB following a request from the UFU to identify and gaps between the building and to ensure they are sealed completely.
The building was also inspected for building code purposes and all issues relating to compliance have been resolved or will be in the coming days.
The UFU and HSR’s have been provided with copies of the reports for the entire Eastern Hill site and there will be a copy of an updated asbestos register available for members to inspect if members wish.
Air monitoring will continue throughout the remedial works in both the old building, infill building and car park.
Given the MFB’s cooperation in this matter and their acquiescence to all UFU requirements the UFU has now approved the reoccupation of the old building and part of the infill building.
If members however have any further concerns either in the immediate future or following reoccupation please contact your HSR, Shop Steward or the UFU office on 9419 8811.
