Victorians express overwhelming support for positive change and reform in vote to return the Andrews Labor Government

As members would by now be well aware, the Andrews Labor Government was returned to Government for a second term of government over the weekend.

The negative agenda pushed by the Liberal Party, the Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria and conservative media outlets against the United Firefighters Union, members and professional career firefighters during this election period was blatantly obvious.

Your Branch Committee of Management would like to express their appreciation to all UFU members and delegates.  Despite these relentless and coordinated attacks, UFU members remained professional and focused on a positive election outcome by not responding to inflammatory attacks and by instead supporting progressive candidates.  We thank you for this display of professionalism.

The UFU would like to thank especially all UFU members for your solidarity, support and discipline shown throughout this recent election period.  The discipline UFU members showed and the support you provided one another has not gone unnoticed by the Union.

Fire service reform and presumptive rights legislation are both equally urgent and important issues for the Victorian community, firefighters and fire service personnel.

The UFU is pleased to hear Premier Andrews today reaffirm the Government’s commitment to these issues, in particular the need to “get response times down”.  Firefighter and community safety sit front and centre of reform and the UFU is pleased that the Government will continue to take a fact-based position that will ultimately benefit all Victorians.
