Bulletin No: 041 Volume: 20 Thursday 20 February 2014
To ALL UFU MEMBERS
By agreement between the CFA, MFB and UFU an invitation was extended to the UFU Secretary Peter Marshall and the UFU OH & S Coordinator Tony Branchflower to attend the Yallourn-Hazelwood fire.
Branch OH & S Coordinator Tony Branchflower has documented a number of issues of which we will work through with the fire services.
However, we are pleased to be able to report that the staging area has evolved with the following developments:
- The implementation of one DSE cooking commercial facility inclusive of covered area for consumption of meals.
- USAR tents have been strategically placed to ensure personnel are protected from the elements.
- The monitoring area for entry and exit of personnel have evolved to one of more sophisticated testing inclusive of a safety net system that includes paramedic assessment if required.
It is clear that the fire services are doing everything possible to make this very difficult and dirty job as comfortable and safe as possible for personnel.
They have communicated their appreciation for the patience and understanding of members who have raised the issues in the interests of health and safety.
Once OH & S Coordinator Branchflower’ complies his report a further bulletin will follow.
In the interim if there are issues that members need to raise please contact Peter Marshall on 0419 127 004.
